How to Choose your First Gym

At the time of writing it's fast approaching the end of 2017. As a gym-based coach I'm seeing numbers at my facility drop drastically as priorities shift and motivation around the holiday period falls short of ideal. In a matter of weeks, however, gyms up and down the country will be crawling with fresh-faced and enthusiastic newbies, all with their own unique set of fitness goals that they've decided that this year will unquestionably be fulfilled.

But with the staggering number of gyms and health clubs out there, how on earth is a newcomer going to decide where all this muscle will be grown, fat will be melted, treadmill miles will be clocked, (INSERT GENERIC FITNESS GOAL HERE)?

Our partners travel the world with us, experiencing countless emotions and situations as a team and, generally speaking, we're super excited about the future we have with them.

The Best 'Beginner' Training Programme in the World...Ever

Exercise newbies are bombarded with information on optimised fitness protocols to maximise their 'gains', whether that be in terms of fat loss or muscle growth. As a beginner, the Internet is both your best friend and your enemy, with endless opinions based on the latest research which ultimately winds up just posing more questions than real answers anyway.

3 Common Barbell Deadlift Positioning Errors

The Barbell Deadlift is arguably the most complete exercise out there. Performed correctly, this exercise can be suitable for everyone, regardless of age, strength or training goals.

The Barbell Deadlift employs multiple large groups of muscles throughout the body, particularly through what's generally termed the 'posterior chain' which comprises the hamstrings, glutes and lower back.

It's a shame, therefore, that many of us aren't getting the most from our Deadlift sets due to poor technical execution.

Netball for All

In association with England Netball, Pete Yardley Health & Fitness recently organised and hosted a very successful and well received mixed gender charity netball tournament in Wolverhampton, raising over £500 on the day.

With an aim to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support whilst breaking down gender-related barriers in sport, everyone involved had a fantastic day and one hell of a workout!

The Skinny on Fish Oil Supplementation

Remember as a kid when your Mother or Grandmother shoved a spoonful of disgusting, stinky cod liver oil down your throat each morning? Somehow, I managed to sidestep that landmine but I know it was a routine that many youngsters had to endure. Thankfully, fish oil supplementation has come a long way since then. We now understand much more about the nutritional benefits of consuming these oils and, thankfully, manufacturers have developed their products to become much more palatable. But what do we need to know about fish oil?
